Abstract:
In general, a smart card is an integrated circuit card with memory capable of making decisions. A smart card, chip card or integrated circuit card (ICC), is defined as any pocket-sized card with embedded integrated circuits which can process information. In this project, we are using a contact smart card where the information inside the card is communicated with the card reader by inserting card into the card reader. The card reader in this project used is an SR-90 SDK of 1KB memory size.
Microcontroller connected to SMART card reader through serial port. Whenever smart card insert into reader, Reader gets card information and sends to microcontroller serially. Each card assign to each student/employee in schools or offices. Microcontroller other end connected to PC through serially. Whenever swipe the card microcontroller take data from reader and send to PC. PC has application (C# .net) and it maintain all student data base information along with corresponding card details. Application decide the absents and presents of all students. This project avoids lot of manual process. It is more helpful in where robust strength occur. This project makes automation in attendance system in any place. We can see attendance records from data base with respective to dates.
Microcontroller has only one serial port but project needs two serial ports. Serial shifter makes two serial ports.
In this project 7805 is a regulator and it avoids noise spikes in power supply. SMART card modem is connected microcontroller through serial port. These SMART card modem works under 9600 or 4800 baud rates.
