Abstract :
Automatic car parking system using Magnetic Stripe Reader.
A Magnetic Stripe Card is a type of card capable of storing data by modifying the magnetism of tiny iron-based magnetic particles on a band of magnetic material on the card. The magnetic stripe, sometimes called swipe card or magstripe is read by swiping past a magnetic reading head.
Parking at crowdie places is a mess, and it takes lot of effort and time for manual process to calculate each vehicles details and time slot it had been in the parking. To over come this problem, we are developing a project using magnetic stripe reader. We will be issuing a card to every use that enters the parking area with their vehicle. The cards details are stored in the controller as a database. After the parking time is completed and when the customer want to take the vehicle out, we have to swipe the card, which will now show the time the vehicle has been in the parking area. A DS1307 IC is used to run the time for the reference. This time will be stored as one of the parameters in the database. A 16X2 LCD is connected to the micro controller in which the date time and parking time information can be seen.
Here we use an 8051 microcontroller with 5V DC Power supply. Serial (UART) protocol is primary concern here. The heart of this project is Magnetic Stripe Reader modem which works on serial (UART) protocol. A 16X2 LCD is connected to microcontroller through Digital I/O lines. The 4X4 keypad is connected in matrix format.
